INTERNATIONAL EARLY YEARS CURRICULUM
Overall, Early Years at Newton College aims to provide our children with the best possible first learning steps. We strive for our children to grow and develop in a stimulating and safe environment, filled with amazing learning opportunities that both challenge and motivate our children to reach their full potential. We believe that it is our role as teachers to foster a love of learning, and to equip our children with the skills and resources required for a bright future.
Our students learn in a very exciting and stimulating environment in the Early Years ‘Wonderland’ building. The building contains a range of carefully designed learning spaces, including flexible classrooms, outdoor areas, a rooftop garden, a slide from one floor to the next, a dining room, and a large multi-purpose room for P.E., assemblies and other activities.
We emphasise “active learning” and personal “hands-on” experiences, concentrating on developing the learning process through free, directed and creative play, as well as through more formal activities. Technology and innovative education are important tools that support our teaching methods, and allow us to make learning both creative and engaging for our children.
Early Years Framework
At Newton College, we believe that the Early Years Foundation Stage is a very important time for children and that the skills, attitudes and attributes children develop during their early education will be important for them for the rest of their life.
We support children to develop and learn through play, using both the indoors and outdoor environment. We promote children’s independence to take charge of their own play, because children learn best when they are deeply interested and fully involved. At Newton, children learn about the world through being active, exploring, being creative and learning to think.
Research tells us that when children feel safe and secure, they learn best. Our team of highly skilled early years practitioners care deeply about our students well-being and learning and know when to stand back and when to get involved in their play.
Children’s learning is often like a winding pathway, so it is important to know that each child’s learning journey is unique to them. The EYFS has separated areas of learning into prime learning areas and specific learning areas. There are three prime areas of learning which are:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
There are four specific areas of learning which are:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the world
- Expressive Arts and Design

Hello, my name is Sarah Moran, I am the Early Years Coordinator at Newton College and I am delighted to welcome you to our department, and there is something very special about Early Years at Newton College. We are incredibly proud of our exceptional students, supportive parents, inspiring staff and a collaborative community, where we all work together to make our school a safe, happy and fun place to learn. I am very happy to share with you the wonderful opportunities and events of Infantil and to answer any questions or requests you need.
